Abstract

This study concerned with the types of illocutionary acts found in After movie. There are two problems to be solved in this study, namely: (1) What are types of Illocutionary acts found in After movie; (2) What are the meanings of illocutionary acts found in After movie based on context situation. This study used descriptive qualitative method in relation to give clear explanation about the phenomenon being studied. The data were taken from the movie and analyzed by using the theory of types of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1976), and the theory of context of situation proposed by Halliday and Hassan (1985). The data were collected by using observation method. In finding presentation, the researcher used formal and informal method. The result of the research showed that all types of illocutionary acts were found in After Movie. In this research, there are 27 data of types of illocutionary acts found in After movie. Among the five types of illocutionary acts, the most frequently used by the characters of this movie is expressive illocutionary acts with 10 data, the second is directive illocutionary acts with 6 data for each type, the third is assertive with 5 data, the fourth is commissive illocutionary acts with 4 data and the last is declarative illocutionary acts are found 2 data. In every conversation there are implied meanings from the utterances and to understand about the meaning based on context of situation that happened in that conversation, there are 3 types of meaning based on the context of situation which are Field, Mode and Tenor were found in After movie.
