Abstract

This study concern with the analysis of context of situation in Edith Nesbit short stories. This study aims to find out the fields in the Edith Nesbit short stories, to find out the tenors in Edith Nesbit short stories, to find out mode in Edith Nesbit short stories. The data collection was used in this study was observation method by searching short stories in the internet, reading the short stories, identify the short stories that contained the variable need to be analyse. The data used in this study was taken from the short stories by Edith Nesbit. In supporting the research, the writer used the theory by M.A.K Halliday as the main theory to analyse the context of situation in the short stories. The method applied in presenting the data were used formal and informal method. The result of the study showed various of field, tenor and mode found in the three short stories by Edith Nesbit such as fable dedicated to children and adult, most of the story is dominated by the dialogue between the interactants. The tenor found in the short stories such as equal and unequal, frequent and infrequent, formal and informal situation. The mode of short stories was written and spoken language.
