Abstract

This thesis entitled “Derivational Affixes Found In Pet Sematary Novel By Stephen King” This study aimed to analyze function and identify types of Derivational Affixes such as Prefix and Suffix. The data were taken from Pet Sematary Novel by Stephen King. In this research the observation method was used to collect the data and the data were analyzed by using qualitative method. The data were analyzed by using the theory from Katamba (1993) and Carstairs and McCarthy (2002) to analyzed function and types of Derivational Affixes. The result of analysis were presented by formal and informal method. The function of the class changing affixes, there are suffix –ly, -ity, -ness, -ing-, -ment, -ance, - ion, -able, -ful, -less, -ish, -fy, -ize, and –ship with total 274 or 89.54% attached by Suffixes. For class mainaining affixes, there are prefix Re-, Dis-, Un-, Under-, Over-, and Sub- and also suffix –ness and –ship with total 32 or 10.46%. Suffix – ly is most frequently appearing is class changing affixes. The study concludes that there are 306 words which are attached by Derivational Affixes were found in the Pet Sematay Novel by Stephen King.
