Abstract

This study focused on analyzing the conjunctions used in newspaper of “Bali Travel News” edition on April 9-22nd, 2021. Conjunctions are also not just found in the article, short story, novel, and also in the newspaper. This study mainly aims at (1) finding out the types of conjunctions found in Bali Travel News and (2) analyzing the function of conjunction. The data source of this study was taken from the article found in Bali Travel News Edition 9-22nd, 2021. This sudy used the qualitative method to analyze the data. The data were collected by applying observation method thorough several steps, such as; reading the article, then underlining the conjunction, and clasifying the conjunction based on the types and functions of conjunctions. The theory proposed by Halliday and Hassan (1976) and (1985) were used to analyze the data. The result showed the total data were found in the newspaper are 232 data of conjunctions which were categorized into additve 141 or 60,78% of the data consist of simple additive relation 136 or 58,62% of the data, complex additive relation (empathic) 4 or 1,72% data, complex additive relation (de-empathy) 1 or 0,43% data, adversative has 14 or 6,03% of the data consist of adversative relation (proper) 6 or 2,59% of the data, causal has 64 or 27,59% data consist of reversed causal relation 9 or 3,88% of the data, and temporal has 13 data or 5,60% data consist of simple temporal relation 10 or 4,32% of the data. Additive conjunctions are the most data found in the data source, it used to connected the sentences, words by words, phrases by phrases, and clauses by clauses.
