THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELFCONFIDENCE AND SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 3 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This research aimed at finding out how students’ self-confidence influenced the speaking achievement of the eighth grade students in SMPN 3 Mengwi. The population of this study was 367 students in grade eighth in the academic year2021/2022. The sample of this study was 40 students. They were chosen by randomsampling technique. The data were collected by using a selfconfidence questionnaire and speaking performance and delivered by using the WhatsApp Group platform and Google Form. The obtained data were analyzed by investigating the correlation between students’ self-confidence score and speaking test score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 25.0. Furthermore, it was found out the result of the correlation between students’selfconfidence and speaking achievement was 0.654. It means that there was a significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking achievement of the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2021/2022. In conclusion, the positive hypothesis is accepted.
