Abstract

This ex-post facto research was aimed at finding out the significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi which consists of 357 students and 64 students as the sample were chosen by cluster sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering sentence writing test and paragraph construction test. The obtained data were statistically analysed through pre-requisite analyse and hypothesis testing. Therefore, the data were normally and homogeneously distributed. Besides, the results of Pearson product moment correlation and t-testing showed that there is a positive correlation between variables and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Briefly, the research findings confirmed that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022.
