THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELF CONFIDENCE AND SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 2 GIANYAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The present study, which made use of ex-post-facto research with correlation design, was intended to find out the significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Gianyar. The sample consisted of 42 students. They were chosen by means random sampling technique. The data which were needed for this research was collected through administering self-confidence test and speaking ability test as the research instrument and delivered by using WhatsApp platform. The obtained data were analyzed by investigating the correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking ability score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 26.0. The result of the correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability was 0.447. It described that there was a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Gianyar in the academic year 2021/2022. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
