IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK REKAYASA DENPASAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 THROUGH PQRST

Reading is one of the four essential language skills in learning English. It can be defined as an essential skill that refers to the ability to comprehend written texts. It also allows readers to glean a wealth of information from texts, enabling them to share their findings with others. However, there are several problems experienced by students in reading comprehension, including difficulties in identifying general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual references. The present research objective was mainly intended to find out whether reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMK Rekayasa Denpasar in the academic year 2024/2025 could be improved through PQRST. The present study used a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles. The required data were collected by administering research instruments: tests and a questionnaire. After the cyclical research processes, it was found that PQRST was an appropriate teaching technique. This was evident from the results of the pre-test, post-test 1, and 2, which showed significant improvements in their reading comprehension. Furthermore, this finding was supported by the questionnaire, which showed positive responses to the implementation of PQRST. It can be concluded that reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMK Rekayasa Denpasar in the academic year 2024/2025 could be improved through PQRST.
