IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF THE TENTH- GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA (SLUA) SARASWATI 1 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEARS 2024/2025 THROUGH ESA COMBINED WITH PICTURES

Writing is a crucial skill in English language learning, enabling students to express ideas clearly and logically. This study aimed to enhance the writing skills of tenth-grade students at SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, specifically in writing descriptive texts. Many students struggled with organizing ideas, choosing appropriate vocabulary, and adding sufficient detail. To address this, the researcher used the ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) combined with pictures as a teaching strategy. The study involved the tenth-grade student, consisting of 34 students, during the 2024/2025 academic year. A classroom action research design was implemented, consisting of cycles with planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. It could be seen from the results of the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2, which showed significant improvement in the subjects’ writing skill. Furthermore, it was supported by the structured questionnaire, which showed positive responses to the implementation of ESA combined with picture. The ESA strategy was effective in engaging students through stimulating materials and discussions, helping them develop their creativity, confidence, and technical writing skills. The study concluded that this strategy was successful in improving students' ability to write descriptive texts, reflected in their high scores and positive feedback.
