IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 2 UBUD IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 BY USING GI TECHNIQUE

Writing is one of language skill that students must learn in order to achieve language mastery. The objective of this classroom action research was to figuring out whether or not the writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ubud could be improved through GI technique. The subjects of this study were class VII/A which consisted of 33 students. This classroom action research design was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle involved of two sessions. The research instruments that were used in administering the data were: prestest, post- test, and questionnaire. This present study was conducted based on the result of pre test in the initial reflection especially in descriptive text which showed that the students' ability in writing skill was still low and they did not know how to create descriptive text with format, punctuation, content, organization, grammar and sentence structure correctly. The subjects' mean scores had significant improvement from the pre-test was 56, post-test 1 in cycle 1 was 73.6, and posttest 2 in cycle 2 was 83.1. Furthermore, this research showed the positive responses concerning the implementation of GI technique in improving writing skill on. The result of the questionnaire showed the percentage of 48.42% strongly agreed, 45.47% agreed, 6.11%undecided, 0.00% disagreed, and 0.00%strongly disagreed. Based on the results of this study it could be concluded that the reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ubud could be improved through GI technique.
