THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND READING COMPREHENSION OF THE SEVENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 KUTA UTARA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025

The research aims at finding out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2024/2025. There were two variables in this research which were the independent variable is vocabulary mastery and dependent variable is reading comprehension. In taking the research, cluster sampling was applied. The population were the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2024/2025. There were 64 students that were used as the research. The researcher used two research instruments; they were matching cloze procedure task for the vocabulary mastery and short answer task for the reading comprehension. The design was ex post facto research design with the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The data collected in this research was analyzed by using Pearson product- moment correlation in SPSS 25. According to the results of the data analysis and statistical calculation, it was found that r was 0.440. It shows that there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2024/2025, In the present of study, the research has already demonstrated a strong correlation between students vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension.
