IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF SEVENTH- GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 14 DENPASAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 THROUGH ESA COMBINED WITH PICTURE

Writing skill is an essential skill that must be mastered by the students after the other three skills. They can communicate and express themselves through writing in the form of sentences, texts, or paragraphs. However, writing was an problem for most of junior high school students. The objective of the present study was to determine whether writing skill of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Denpasar in the academic year 2024/2025 could be improve through ESA combined with picture. The pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were the research instruments in this classroom action research to accomplish the objective. Pre-test results showed that the students’ writing skill were low 53.24. To improve the subjects’ writing skill, the researcher used ESA combined with picture. The results of post-test I showed that the subject had made less improvement 71.34. In post- test II, the students writing skill significantly improved, rising from a decent to an excellent level of 80.95. Additionally, at the end of cycle II, the researcher administered the questionnaire in order to collect additional supporting data. It showed how learning behavior was changed by the effectiveness of ESA in improving the students’ writing skill. To sum up, the present classroom action research proved that ESA combined with picture could improve writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Denpasar in the academic year 2024/2025.
