IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE EIGHTH- GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 1 KUTA UTARA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 THROUGH STORYTELLING TECHNIQUE

Speaking is one of the four English language skills that needs attention because speaking skills were quite difficult to learn. Speaking activities cannot be separated in the learning process that students experience in learning. Therefore, students should master the basic elements of speaking. Grammar must be mastered. Therefore, the students must be able to form grammatically correct. The preliminary observation which was conducted to the eighth-grade students of SMP N 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2024/2025 showed that their speaking skill needed to be improved by applying an interesting and appropriate teaching technique, storytelling. The present study was conducted in two cycles. The data were gathered by administering pre-test and post-test. The results of the post-test in each cycle obviously showed that there were significant improvements concerning the students gave positive responses towardthe implementation of storytelling in improving their speaking skill. In conclusion, the present study classroom action research proved that speaking skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2024/2025 can be improved through storytelling technique.
