IMPROVING WRITING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH- GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 1 UBUD IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 THROUGH ROUNDTABLE COMBINED WITH PICTURE

Writing is one of the four essential language skills for English students. Writing is one of the most crucial skills that second language students need to develop. Writing helps students convey their ideas systematically, coherently, and concisely. However, most students in the class still have difficulty gathering ideas and develop their ideas into good paragraph and their vocabulary is still limited. The objective of this study is to determine whether or not writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Ubud in the academic year 2024/2025 can be improved through Roundtable Combined with Picture. This study conducted classroom action research design in two cycles. The study involved 38 students from 7B class. Data were collected by administering research instruments through tests and a questionnaire. The results showed that Roundtable Combined with Picture was an appropriate teaching technique to improve the students’ writing skill, especially in constructing descriptive paragraph. Besides, it could be seen from the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2 results, which showed significant improvement in their writing skill with mean scores increasing from 53.53 in the Pre-Cycle to 72.45 in Cycle I and 85.00 in Cycle II. Based on the researcher’s calculations, 38 students could reach the minimum passing grade. It was also supported by the structured questionnaire, which showed positive responses toward the implementation of Roundtable Combined with Picture. Lastly, it could be summed up that the writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Ubud in the academic year 2024/2025 could be improved through Roundtable Combined with Picture.
