THE CORRELATION BETWEEN GRAMMAR MASTERY AND WRITING SKILL OF THE EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 UBUD IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025

Grammar and writing are language component and skill that should be learned by language learners. Grammar is the rule or a system that regulates that structure and the meaning of the sentence, while writing is communication in the written form. The primary objective of the present study is to figure out the significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the eighth- grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud. In doing this research, the two research instruments (sentence construction test and paragraph construction test) were well administered to the 62 students of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud in academic year 2024/2025 who were chosen as the sample. They were chosen by mean of cluster sampling. After the required data were collected, they were the statistically analyzed using pre-requisite testing (normality and homogeneity test) and hypothesis testing (Pearson product moment correlation and t-test). The result of the data analysis clearly showed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings claimed that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud in academic year 2024/2025.
