AN ANALYSIS OF CODE SWITCHING FOUND IN DEDDY CORBUZIER’S YOUTUBE CHANNEL “POD HUB” EDITION

This study concerns on code-switching from Indonesia-English language used by the people in Pod Hub podcast from Deddy Corbuzier’s YouTube Channel. The code-switching habit is commonly practiced by bilingual individuals during their everyday conversations. Deddy Corbuzier and Vidi Aldiano are ones of public figure who often used code-switching in their daily communication, as found in his YouTube channel. Not only them, some of the guest in their Pod Hub podcast also used code-switching in their conversation. This study aims to identify the types of code-switching found in the utterances of the participant in Pod Hub podcast videos that has chosen and analyse the reason based on the context of situation. This study used qualitative method to analyse the data and observation method used to collect the data. The data were analysed by using theory purposed by Poplack (1980) to analyse the types and the theory of Hoffman (1991) to analyse the reason along with the theory purposed by Halliday and Hasan (1989) to analyse the context of situation. The result shows that all of the code-switching types were found. Intra sentential code switching is the highest types found in the podcast and tag switching is the lowest. Furthermore, only six types of code-switching were found in the podcast. The highest is talking about particular topic while the least reason found in the podcast is expressing group identity. This study shows that the code- switching phenomenon today occurs in many media such as social media like YouTube. Talking about particular topic often used in order to find the right word or concept that the speaker wants to express
