TRANSLATION METHOD IN THE MOVIE SUBTITLE TURBO

This research focuses on analysis of translation methods found in the movie subtitle entitled Turbo. The objective of this study is to find out the type of translation methods and to know the meaning of equivalence between source language and target language. The data were taken from movie subtitle turbo. The observation method was used to collect the data and the data were analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. This research used theories from Newmark (1998) to analyze the type of translation method, and Nida and Taber (1982) to know the meaning of equivalence between source language and target language. This study found 655 data from the movie. The highest number was placed by the Literal translation 207 or 31% data. Then followed by the Communicative translation which has 178 data or 28%. Then, it is followed by the Semantic translation which has 140 data or 21%. Faithful translation 80 or 12% data, idiomatic translation 32. The lowest were Free translation which has 8 data or 1%. Word-for-word translation which has 6 data or 1%. And Adaptation translation has 4 data or 1%. The dominant type of translation method found in this research is Literal Translation,
