AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS IN ALBUM “SHMURDA SHE WROTE” BY BOBBY SHMURDA

The study aims to analyze the types of slang words which frequently used in the song lyrics in the album and the functions of applying that particular type of slang words to the listeners in the utterances. The data for this study consist of song lyrics containing slang words found in the album “Shmurda She Wrote” by Bobby Shmurda. Data collection method is utilized to gather data utilized in this study. Miles and Huberman's (2014) approach are utilized to analyze the data gathered, which divides qualitative data analysis into three steps: data condensation, data display, and drawing & verifying conclusions. Those two methods compounded to present the result of analysis of slang words to build the presentation not difficult to cope with. Allan and Burridge (2006) theory about types and functions of slang words was utilized to reach the aims. They stated that there are five types of slang namely: fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping. Furthermore, they also stated there are seven functions of slang namely: to address, to humiliate, to initiate relax conversation, to form an intimate atmosphere, to express impression, to reveal anger, and to show intimacy. After going through a thorough process, 270 slang words from Bobby Shmurda’s album “Shmurda She Wrote” has successfully gathered. The study concludes that the slang words is utilized by the rapper to convey information more clearly and to make the lyrics more impressive and suitable to the music.
