Abstract

This study focuses on the Syntactic Analysis Of Simple Sentence Structures Found In The Children’s Storybook “Stories Of Vampires” By Louie Stowell. The research aims to identify the types of simple sentence patterns and analyze their constituent structures using syntactic tree diagrams. The data were collected through library research, and the analysis was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The theories applied in this study were proposed by Greenbaum and Nelson (2002) for classifying sentence patterns, and by Brown and Miller (1991), along with Fabb (1994), for analyzing constituent structures through tree diagrams. The results revealed that all types of simple sentence structures were found in the storybook, including S-V, S-V-O, S-V-O-O, S-V-C, S-V-O-C, S-V-A, and S-V- O-A. The most frequently occurring pattern was the S-V-C (Subject–Verb– Complement) structure, as this type effectively supports descriptive storytelling. The analysis also showed how subjects, verbs, and complements were constructed through various combinations of pronouns, noun phrases, verb phrases, and adverbial phrases. The findings were visually supported with hierarchical tree diagrams to demonstrate the internal syntactic structure of each sentence. This study is expected to contribute to the field of syntax, especially in understanding sentence construction in children’s literature, and to serve as a useful reference for students, educators, and future researchers interested in linguistic analysis.
