Abstract

This study analyzes the conflicts experienced by the main characters in the science fiction film Stowaway (2021), focusing on the types of conflicts, their sources, and the strategies used to resolve them. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Kenney’s (1966) theory is used to identify and classify conflict types, while Deetz and Stevenson’s (1986) theory is applied to analyze conflict management strategies and sources of conflict. The findings reveal six (6) instances of internal conflict and five (5) instances of external conflict, consisting of one (1) man-versusnature conflict and four (4) man-versus-man conflicts, with a total of eleven (11) conflict data identified in the film. The most dominant source of conflict is limited resources, which occurs six times, while the most frequently used conflict management strategy is competition. These findings indicate that conflict plays a crucial role in shaping the characters’ decision-making and development, showing how extreme survival conditions influence moral choices and interpersonal dynamics throughout the film.
