DELVING STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS AND CHALLENGES ON THE USE OF WAYGROUND AS FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2025/2026

With the speed at which technology was developing, one of the popularly known platforms like Wayground used as an assessment based to engage students and improve students’ educational experiences. It is important to know how the student perceived and what challenges that the student faced while implementing this platform. Therefore, this study focused on delving the students’ perceptions and challenges faced by the students mainly in using Wayground for a formative assessment in English Language Learning of the fourth-grade students of Pelangi School in academic year of 2025/2026. This study applied qualitative approach in the form of interpretative research and focused on eight main aspects, five aspects delved students’ perceptions, engagement, motivation, enjoyment, satisfaction, relevance and three aspects to delved students’ challenges, internet connectivity, time constraints and device issues based on the referred theory. The required data was collected through structured questionnaire to 17 students the followed by semi- structured interview done with 7 students in order to collect a much deeper data. The result showed that the majority students gave positive responses related to the perceptions aspect on the use of Wayground as formative assessment as they really engage, motivated, enjoyed, satisfied and it connected with what the students had been learnt in class. However, some students faced challenges related to their internet connectivity, time limit and device-related issue which made the students left under anxiety. Thus, for the fourth-grade students in academic year of 2025/2025, Wayground provide positive impact to their learning despite the challenges that able to be maintained.
