Abstract
The objective of the study is to analyze the use of discourse markers and the function of each discourse marker in the descriptive text made by Kintamani junior high school students. The study used Dell Hymes (1974) "speaking model" and discourse markers theory to examine qualitative data from 41 descriptive text written by Kintamani Junior High School students. This study examines discourse markers in descriptive writings written by junior high students in Kintamani, identifying the occurence of connective, cause-and-result, temporal adverb, and response markers. The results of the study show that four discourse markers are frequently seen in the descriptive texts that the students write. In order to convey ideas and concepts, this study attempts to establish a connection between the analysis of DMs and riptide writings. By promoting coherence and shifts between ideas, these markers enhance communication. The findings show how well students utilize discourse markers to improve text structure and reader engagement. This emphasizes how discourse markers improve textual communication quality and the information flow presented by the students
