Abstract

This study concerns on the analysis of derivational morphemes in the novel "Critical Eleven" by Ika Natassa. This study aims are to investigate the types of derivational morphemes in the novel and to o describe how these derivational morphemes alter the meanings of words. A qualitative method is used to analyze the data, providing a detailed explanation based on theories proposed by Fromkin et al. (2011) and Carstairs and McCarthy (2002). The data are classified into two categories, such as; class-changing morphemes and class-maintaining morphemes. The data were written down into the table containing derivational morphemes. This study finds that derivational morphemes in "Critical Eleven" significantly change the grammatical classes and meanings of words, demonstrating the dynamic nature of language and word formation. The research concludes that the novel is rich in derivational morphemes, which contribute to its linguistic complexity and depth. The total data of the data collection is 245 of the class changing morphemes and 9 class maintaining morphemes. The result shows that the most dominant occuration of derivational morphemes is adjective to adverb with total of 95 data (40%) and the less dominant derivational morphemes is noun to verb with total of 5 data (2%).
