The Use of Deixis in Pamungkas selected Song Lyrics

This research focuses on the analysis of deixis found in the lyrics of selected Pamungkas songs. This research aims to analyze the deixis function contained in the selected thirteen Pamungkas songs and the context of the situation contained in the song. By using qualitative method, this research explores various types of deixis used by Pamungkas and investigates the contextual situation in which the deixis appears. In data collection, observation method was applied in this research. Data collection involves listening to the chosen thirteen songs multiple times, identifying deixis in the lyrics, and classifying deixis types based on Cruse's type theory and analyzing the contextual situation based on Halliday and Hasan's (1985) theory. Informal and formal method were used in presenting the finding of this research. In this study, five data were found which can be displayed in the percentage of person deixis reaching 84%, spatial deixis 5.2%, temporal deixis 8.3%, social deixis 1.1%, and discourse deixis 1.3%. Person deixis designates the speaker or addressee, spatial deixis indicates proximity to the speaker, temporal deixis relates to event timing, social deixis denotes social status, and discourse deixis signals upcoming discourse parts. In the context of the situation found in Pamungkas' thirteen selected songs, the field in all of these songs is about personal events experienced by Pamungkas. Then the Tenor, or those who participate in the song are almost entirely Pamungkas himself and the people around him. Then the mode, where the sentences in writing song lyrics use narrative and descriptive types to make it easier for the author to express the implied content and meaning of the song.
