Aktivitas Antioksidan Ekstrak Propolis dari Yogyakarta Dalam Kedokteran Gigi

ABSTRACT
Propolis is one source of antioxidants derived from bees. The antioxidant potential of propolis is influenced by plant factors that grow in geographic areas where the bees live. The biological effects of propolis are widely known and have been used since antiquity. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential of antioxidant propolis from Yogyakarta area. Methods were performed in the form of antioxidant character test using total flavonoid activity test and total phenol. Its antioxidant strength was measured by DPPH IC50 test. The results showed that the propolis antioxidant from Yogyakarta had a very strong potency with DPPH value of 35.6 μg / ml; with flavonoid content of 6.83% w / w and phenol content of 0.62% w / w. It can be concluded that propolis from Yogyakarta has a potent antioxidant potential so it has prospects to be developed economically. High antioxidant activity and therapeutic effectiveness, local propolis is expected to add value to the contribution of de dentistry in particular.

ABSTRAK
Propolis adalah salah satu sumber antioksidan yang berasal dari hewan lebah. Potensi antioksidan propolis dipengaruhi oleh faktor tanaman yang tumbuh pada daerah geografik dimana lebah tersebut hidup. Efek biologis propolis secara luas telah diketahui dan sudah digunakan sejak jaman dahulu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti potensi antioksidan propolis dari daerah Yogyakarta. Metode yang dilakukan berupa uji karakter antioksidan dengan menggunakan uji aktivitas total flavonoid dan total fenol. Kekuatan antioksidannya diukur dengan uji DPPH IC50. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa antioksidan propolis dari Yogyakarta mempunyai potensi sangat kuat dengan nilai DPPH 35,6 µg/ml; dengan kandungan flavonoid 6,83 % b/b dan kandungan fenol 0,62 % b/b. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa propolis dari Yogyakarta mempunyai potensi antioksidan yang sangat kuat sehingga mempunyai prospek untuk dikembangkan secara ekonomis. Aktivitas antioksidan yang tinggi dan efektivitas terapeutiknya, propolis lokal diharapkan dapat menambah nilai kontribusi pada praktek kedokteran gigi khususnya.
