Abstract
Introduction. Using a removable denture can caused chronic inflammation, commonly triggered from oral microorganism, Stretococcus mutans and Candida albicans. Prevalence of denture stomatitis is about 35-50%. Flavonoid in Averrhoa bilimbi 1 leaf extract may act as an antibacterial and antifungal. The aim of this research is to prove that the immersion of heat cured acrylic resin plate in Averrhoa bilimbi / leaf extract could decrease the amount of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans. Method. These research was post test only control group design, 48 samples devided into 12 groups, Stretococcus mutans and Candida albicans groups in Averrhoa bilimbi / leaf extract 6,25 %, 10% concentration, sterile aquadest during 2 and 6 hours. The plates acrylic resin were washed and immersed into sterile aquadest during 48 hours, then they were contaminated with Stretococcus mutans and Candida albicans with 24 hours. Next step, they were immersed into Averrhoa bilimbi / leaf extract and aquadest during 2 and 6 hours then the amount of Stretococcus mutans and Candida albicans were counted. Result. The amount of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans in Averrhoa bilimbi /leaf extract 6,25% and 10% concentration on immersing two hours and six hours were significant differences (p<0.05) than control. Conclusion. It was concluded that the immersing of heat cured acrylic resin plates in Averrhoa bilimbi I leaf extract 10% concentration is the most effective decreased the amount of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans.
