Abstract
Background: Thermoplastic nylon is a material that is often used in the manufacture of denture bases, functioning to support dentures. The use of removable denture can cause denture stomatitis. Soursop leaf extract containing alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, and saponins can act as antifungals. Purpose: to find out whether immersion of thermoplastic nylon plates in a solution of soursop leaf extract can reduce Candida albicans colony count. Methods: The design ofthis research used a pre-post test control group design, using 25 thermoplastic nylon plates divided into 5 groups, namely the soursop leaf extract group with a concentration of 10%6, 15%6 and 25% and control group firydent@ and aquades. Samples were contaminated with Candidk albicans suspension and incubated, initial calculations were carried out, immersion was carried out for 8 hours, then put into Saboroud's broth and continued with the final calculation. Results: Analysis of the data by the wilcoron test to determine the differences before and afier treatment, the results showed that there were significant differences (p <0.05) in the nylon thermoplastic treatment group, due to the active content acting as an antifungal, except in the distilled water control group (p> 0.5). The Mann-Whimey test, it was found that almost all the good comparison groups between the treatment group and the control group had a value of p <0.05, which meant there were significant differences in each treatment group, except for the comparison of 25% (P3) soursop leaf extract with the group positive control (KI) has a value of p> 0.05 so it does not have a significant difference. Conclusion: The conchusion that immersion of thermoplastic nylon resin plate in a solution of soursop leaf extract can reduce Candida albicans colony count, according to the increase in concentration where the most effective concentration is 25%.
